Origin[]
Alexander Herrmann (1844 - 1896) was a French magician, better known as Herrmann the Great. In 1883 Herrmann embarked on another world tour, first stop was South America. Impressing Emperor Don Pedro II of Brazil was so fascinated with his magic that h presented him with the Cross of Brazil. Another stop brought him to perform before Czar Alexander II of Russia, once again the leader was so impressed with Herrmann that he presented the man with another watch with a chain made of heavy strands of gold. This happened with several other leaders in several other countries, each so impressed they gave him a fortune. Upon returning to America with his riches he was seen with a gold watch, but one that was tarnished with use, not the one the Czar gave him though. When he died his watch was passed down to his son, Compars "Carl" Herrmann.
