Origin[]

Al Tomaini (February 25, 1912 - August 30, 1962) once measured as the world's tallest person at 8 feet, 4 inches. A childhood physician diagnosed his extreme stature as a result of an over-stimulated pituitary gland. Most of his career was spent as a sideshow performer. He met his future wife Jeanie at a Chicago exhibition. Known as “The Living Half Girl”, she was born without legs at 2 ft 5 inches tall. Together they formed The World’s Strangest Married Couple. The pair retired to the circus winter retreat in Gibonston, Florida and served in various community roles. Al lived to be 50 with his wife, much longer than most with damaged pituitaries.

Effects[]

Greatly increases or reduces one’s muscular growth. Leads to abnormally fast height gain in several months’ time, or keeps individual parts undersized and unable to develop from hypertrophy. Increases hormonal activity regulated by the pituitary gland. May lead to metabolic, renal, temperature and pain swings.

MacPherson’s Notes[]

“Found this beastie lying unappreciated in an Arkansas motor rally. Devils thought I was doing them a favor taking it off their hands. Seems to moderately accelerate or stunt one’s own natural growth processes, regardless of age or physical condition. Subjects with broken bones, missing limbs or scarred cardiac tissue may have a mighty ounce of screaming to tackle before completion. It doesn’t seem to switch between patterns, so resizing is not a possibility. As long as they maintain a healthy diet and exercise regiment, they appear to suffer no major endocrine windfalls.”
